What is the British Council?

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We work in the education sector across all six continents to help share UK expertise and innovation whilst creating partnerships to work together collaboratively.

Science and Research

At the British Council we link scientists to opportunities all over the world. We encourage the exchange of knowledge and skill from research opportunities to fostering scientific talent through educational programmes.

Study Work Create

This part of the British Council focuses on opening up international opportunities for young people in the UK. Many programmes have been designed to help students make the most of their international experience through work experience, study placements and encourage the development of creative skills.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Our work at the British Council is based on building meaningful, enduring and respectful relationships across different cultures. We cannot do this without a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Safeguarding global policy statement

In our work at the British Council, we meet many children and adults who are potentially at risk for a variety of reasons. We aim to create a safe environment in which no child or adult will experience harm or exploitation during their contact with us.
