Collaborator on activities related to the project/agreement stated.
Job title: A digital twin for the optimal monitoring and radiotherapy of prostate cancer based on personalized computational forecasts
Research line / Scientific-technical services: Digital twins for prostate cancer
(1) TASKS This contract for a trainee researcher is opened with the objective of developing the following tasks within the framework of the research lines of the project "A digital twin for the optimal monitoring and radiotherapy of prostate cancer based on personalized computational forecasts":
1) Definition of a spatiotemporal model of prostate cancer growth, including the production of the biomarker PSA, biomechanical effects, and radiotherapeutic response.
2) Development of precise and efficient computational methods for the personalized prediction of prostate cancer growth based on isogeometric analysis.
3) Analysis of the predictions, parameters, and biomarkers obtained with the personalized models for each patient and for groups of patients.
4) Design of machine learning classifiers informed by biomechanistic metrics to predict clinical risk progression in prostate cancer patients.
5) Exploring the in silico optimization of patient monitoring and treatment through the use of a digital twin.
6) Development of computer codes in MATLAB and Python to implement tasks 1–5.
7) Contribution to the preparation of written and visual materials for presenting scientific results at conferences and in scientific articles.

- Education Level
- Master Degree or equivalent
Applications will be scored up to 100 points in accordance with the following criteria:
A. Academic record (maximum 35 points). A.1. A maximum of 10 points will be given based on the average grade of the required degrees, weighted by the corresponding number of credits per degree. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in civil, mechanical, or biomedical engineering. In the case of candidates with degrees in statistics, mathematics, physics, or other engineering fields, a weighting factor of 70% will be applied to the average grade. For candidates with degrees other than those mentioned above, the weighting factor will be 10%.
A.2. The remaining 25 points will be awarded using a weighted average of the grades from the courses taken by the candidate in relation to the project's tasks as follows: a maximum of 1 point per ECTS in courses related to infinitesimal calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods, and scientific programming; a maximum of 2 points per ECTS in courses related to differential equations, computational mechanics, solid mechanics, and structural analysis; and a maximum of 3 points per ECTS in courses related to applications of mathematics, physics, and engineering in biology and medicine. In these courses, the same weighting scheme as that for the average grade will be applied according to the type of degree.
B. Experience related to the activities to be developed (maximum 30 points). B.1. Experience in using spatiotemporal models based on partial differential equations for science and engineering problems, especially in the fields of solid mechanics, biology, and medicine (maximum 10 points). Each month of experience will be valued at a maximum of 0.5 points.
B.2. Experience in using computational methods to solve models based on partial differential equations for science and engineering problems (maximum 10 points). Each month of experience will be valued at a maximum of 0.5 points.
B.3. Experience in using programming languages and advanced software packages to perform computational simulations of science and engineering problems (maximum 10 points). Each month of experience will be valued at a maximum of 0.5 points.
B.4. Experience in writing scientific-technical documents and presenting results at national and international conferences and other scientific events (maximum 5 points). Each contribution will be valued at a maximum of 1 point.
B.5. Other academic merits (maximum 5 points). Awards, scholarships, and contracts related to the project tasks obtained through a competitive call will be valued with a maximum of 2.5 points each. C. English level (maximum 10 points).
A maximum of 10 points will be awarded for demonstrable knowledge of the English language at an intermediate level or higher, according to the Common European Framework of Reference (A2: 2 points; B1: 4 points; B2: 6 points; C1: 8 points; C2: 10 points).
D. Personal interview (maximum 25 points). Candidates that achieve a score above 50 points in sections A-C will be invited to a personal interview, in which they will have to show their capacity and knowledge for the tasks to be developed.
A minimum score of 65 points will be necessary to be beneficiary of this contract. The process will create a waiting list (reserves) with the applications that satisfy this condition. If no candidate obtains a score over 65 points, the position may be declared unfilled.
Additional Information
The candidates must be in possession of a degree granting access to a PhD program at the university. Additionally, candidates must be enrolled in a PhD program of the Galician University System in the field of engineering that includes research lines on numerical methods in engineering.
WHERE TO APPLY: UDC online services site. Applications should be addressed to the Office of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transference, and include the call reference.
DEADLINE: 5 working days from the day following the publication of the call on the official bulletin board of the UDC online services site.
SELECTION COMMITTEE AND PUBLICATION OF RESULTS SELECTION COMMITTEE (minimum 3 members and 3 reserves): Guillermo Lorenzo (PR-RC, president), José París (TITUN, member), Ignasi Colominas (CAT-UN, secretary). Reserve list: Iván Couceiro (AXU-DR), Luis Ramírez (TIT-UN), Xesús Nogueira (CAT-UN).
