In 2025, the Centre for Applied Music Research at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies will launch a research project in close collaboration with the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), the aim of which is to investigate orchestras as important cultural organizations with a variety of tasks in today's Europe, including their role as international cultural ambassadors or their importance for regional development. In this context, the education and training of musicians in an international youth orchestra is of particular importance.

The following position is available to strengthen our team of the Arts and Cultural Studies Department/ Center for Applied Music Research at the Faculty of Education, Arts and Architecture:

Scientific Project Associate – PostDoc (m/f/d) 

30 hrs./week

Your tasks

• Independent implementation of empirical research (data collection using qualitative methods, processing, and evaluation of data)
• Collaboration in the development and organization of workshops and specialist conferences
• Internationally visible publication activities including the publication of research results in scientific journals
• Presentation of results at relevant national and international conferences
• Regular exchange and communication with musicians and representatives of the European Union Youth Orchestra and other partners
• Collaboration in the acquisition of a follow-up project at European level

Your profile

We require evidence of the following qualifications for the application:

• Completed university studies (PhD/Doctorate) in the humanities or social sciences or cultural studies
• Proven independent research and publication activity related to music, e.g. in projects or publications
• Proven experience in qualitative empirical research (e.g. in projects or publications)
• Proven experience in the use of relevant digital tools and programs for qualitative research (through use in research)
• Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary research (e.g. doctoral thesis, research projects, scientific publications)

In addition, the following criteria are desirable:

• Knowledge of statistical data analysis
• Experience in quantitative empirical research
• Very good knowledge of German and English (both at least C1)
• Ability to work in a team and communication skills

• Independent, flexible, and proactive way of working

   

Your perspective

• Part-time position (30 hours/week) initially limited to 29 February 2028, with a minimum salary of EUR 4,752.30 gross per month on a full-time basis (classification as a scientific project staff member according to § 49 VwGr. B1, Kollektivvertrag für Universitäten (collective agreement for universities)collective agreement of universities)
