Join the Bordeaux Population Health Center (BPH, U1219 Univ. Bordeaux – Inserm) at the University of Bordeaux, one of France’s leading population health research centers with nearly 500 staff members.

For this position, you will join the GHiGS (Global Health in the Global South) team, one of BPH’s 10 research teams. This team develops and evaluates interventions to prevent, detect, and manage infectious and non-communicable diseases affecting the Global South.

The University of Bordeaux has launched seven "Major Research Programs" (MRPs), focusing on large-scale international scientific challenges, including the IPORA project (Interdisciplinary Policy-Oriented Research on Africa).

IPORA (2022–2028) aims to create an international, interdisciplinary research and training platform to produce scientific knowledge for policymakers addressing Africa’s major challenges. 

Currently, IPORA involves 14 teaching and research teams from universities in Bordeaux (including GHiGS), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Rabat (Morocco), and Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).

To support IPORA’s "training through research" component (Work Package 8), we are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher.

Your primary mission will be to design and lead a coherent and effective action plan for the activities described in WP8, in collaboration with the Africa Graduate Program (a Master’s/Ph.D. program focused on interdisciplinary challenges in contemporary Africa). The goal is to develop and coordinate a research-based interdisciplinary training program, equipping researchers and professionals to apply interdisciplinary and policy-oriented research approaches across Africa.

Key Areas of Activity:

• Needs Assessment and Knowledge Building
  • Identify the knowledge and skill requirements in interdisciplinary research among IPORA platform students and young researchers, as well as within the Africa Graduate Program.
• Fostering Local and International Collaborations
  • Strengthen partnerships with laboratories and universities in Bordeaux, Europe, and Africa offering complementary interdisciplinary programs focused on Africa (e.g., through the Africa Graduate Program or summer schools).
  • Create synergies across departments and disciplines and establish an excellence network for interdisciplinary research training.
• Training and Coordination
  • Organize monthly research-focused seminars for students, Ph.D. candidates, and researchers in collaboration with other IPORA teams.
  • Facilitate internships and interdisciplinary doctoral programs aligned with the IPORA project.
  • Promote synergies between WP8 and the Africa Graduate Program by coordinating interdisciplinary projects and internships.

• Contribute to or initiate interdisciplinary research within the IPORA framework.
